I've raised it at 2talk....but not heard anything yet so thought I'd try here as well.I've had 2talk for years, running through a ex-BiddleCorp Linksys Pap2T. Caller ID (and reverse white pages lookup) has been working fine for years also. But recently the caller id coming up on the phone has stopped appearing. I haven't made any changes at 2talk, or on the pap2t or the phone.Any ideas what could have caused this? and how I might fix it?

DV130 VoIP configuration best practice
Hi all,Not very familiar with best practice for router configuration with a VoIP setup, and was wondering with your average modem, in this case a DV130, is there much that can be done to optimize VoIP traffic, or is a more advanced router with decent QoS etc really required?I would always make sure SIP ALG is disabled, but other than that I'm not too sure what else would normally be done. Thanks!

Skype alternatives
We have until recently had two skype accounts in the family with paid subscriptions giving flat rate world wide calling and skype in numbers for others to call us. The skype in numbers have been great as they can be in any country in which it is convenient for us to receive calls. However, change is being forced upon us.One subscriber was away from home visiting friends and was having trouble connecting a mobile phone to the friend's wifi in order to use skype. The friend suggested that they could use one of their laptops and they did so. Big mistake. bye bye skype account. The friend's laptop was associated with a microsoft live account. Our skype account was not and without warning, microsoft associated the skype account with the microsoft live account on the laptop. That is a non-reversible operation and the skype account can now only be accessed by logging in to the friend's microsoft live account. All gone, outstanding paid subscription and all. This is a known issue and there are rumblings about a class action lawsuit in the US but that is not of any help.We could not even cancel the account because we could not log in to it. Eventually, after hours on-line with skype support, we were able to cancel it. There is no way to get a refund on the un-expired subscription either.I do not want my skype account and subscription to go the same way so I have decided to cancel it as well. That leads to the question as to what service I should look for as a replacement. Our requirements are:Outgoing calls at a flat rate to landlines and 0800 numbers in most of the world.Landline equivalent numbers for incoming calls. We need one NZ number and one in Europe.Needs to work on Windows, Linux, Mac OS, IOS and Android. On a PC, it should work as a web based app so we do not need to install software on another person's machine. We do not need IM or app-app calling as we have switched to Whatsapp for that already.Any suggestions?

2 Degrees home plus and Freepbx setup questions
Hi everyone. I have a small business, we using 2 degrees in CHCH with a fibre connection and a Fritz!box router. I currently have 2 Fritz!boxs with a handset attached to each that can take and receive calls, one is set up as a Mesh repeater.I'd like to setup a PBX running a Raspberry Pi on site. I currently have a RPI running 24/7 onsite anyway and have a working install of FreePbx on a RPI currently that I can phone between soft phone extensions. The main reason I'd like to implement this is to have an auto assistant answer calls and direct them to the appropriate extension or perhaps a voicemail box. Does anyone have any experience setting up FreePbx to use a 2degrees home phone plus account, and then using the Fritz!boxes as extensions of the PBX?It's possible that this isn't the optimal solution and I'd be interested to hear any suggestions for alternatives.Thanks.

SPA122 will not register.
Hi-This is my first post. I have a SPA122 ATA. Does anyone know if this will work on slingshot fibre homeline? The problem that I am having is that it will not register. I have double checked my information that slingshot have given me, with no success. I have a dial tone, but cannot ring out or receive calls. Keeps coming up with failed registration. Have read forum dating back to march this year that someone got the spa122 working on slingshot. I have spoken to slingshot tech guys ( 4 different people ) and no one can help. Any help would be great.

VOIP handset for seniors?
I'm looking for suggestions for a VOIP handset for a senior. Pretty much everything on PBTech etc. either looks like a mobile phone - with a thousand buttons and a confusing (and tiny) screen, or is an office PBX type device.I'm hoping to find something that looks and feels like an actual phone - preferably with no screen, and minimum of unnecessary features. Many thanks!J

Grandstream 1610 Phantom Phone Calls
Hi AllHopefully someone here might be able to help with a VOIP Phone issue I recently purchased a Grandstream 1610 Voip phone, set it up in my office, all is working fine running through 2talk it rings in and rings out. However it also rings every few minutes for no reason with caller ID numbers in the 300+ range or 900+ range they are phantom calls no one on the other end.I took the system home set it up upgraded the firmware, rebooted it back to factory settings reconfigured it to the settings I require and not a peep from it.I take it back to my office and it kicks off again ringing every few minutes non stop, have Googled and followed a number of leads on the internet but nothing. My broadband provider at the office and at home is Big Pipe the only difference between the two is my office has a static IP address, so its got me stumped as to why it constantly ringings in my office but is fine at home.Anyone come across anything like this before.

Microsoft MFA calls to landline no longer being received
Up until recently we have been happily using Azure AD MFA, with a mixture of users using the app, and some electing to receive a voice call. At some stage recently, calls to NZ land lines stopped working. People using mobile phones are still receiving the verification call, but those using Vodafone and Spark land lines do not get called. Our telco does not see any incoming calls from the source phone number, and is pushing back saying the problem is at Microsoft's end, which my feeling is that it's probably the case. What do you guys reckon has happened?

Mitigating VoIP provider outages
As I type this, the Voyager & Ufone VoIP outage is not yet fully resolved. We've had a quick chat internally about mitigating this sort of thing....Where there is a DDoS attack (or another attack that overwhelms a VoIP system), presumably if you had a rule that forwarded calls to mobile phone if the on-prem VoIP PBX was unavailable, this forward would not actually work because the provider's VoIP systems were not in any sort of state to actually do the forward to mobile?Likewise having a trunk with VoIP Provider A and a second trunk with VoIP Provider B..... if Provider A suffers a DDoS attack or similar, calls won't be forwarded to Provider B because Provider A's systems are not in a state to initiate that forward.Perhaps it wouldn't be a terrible idea to have a hybrid solution with the client's main number being an analog/ISDN line with a converter into an on premises VoIP PABX, but all overflow lines and outgoing calling lines are VoIP. So if this kinda thing happens again, at least the client can still receive calls one at a time, and presumably request the analog/ISDN provider change the diversion from a forward-to-VoIP-line to a forward-to-mobile.Thoughts?

VOIP Wholesalers
Hi.We are interested in recommendations for providers that wholesale VOIP for resale. Not interested in 2Talk. Prefer Cloud PBX that is polished, *reliable*, reasonably competitive and with support who are easy to deal with. Thanks in advance.

2talk - SMS Issues
HiI have been on 2talk for a little while now and have switched my BB and my local number to them as well.Since 30 October I have not been receiving any sms messages to my 2talk number. I cannot send sms messages from my 2talk number either. I also have not received any emails with sms messages in as well.I have lost work because of this, clients may not have been able to contact me and yesterday I almost missed an important meeting because of this. For the past week I have had a support ticket open with 2talk who asked me to use their standard 2talk connect softphone, and send sms messages to and from my normal spark numbers. Yesterday I received no feedback or updates from 2talk at all. Has anyone else suffered a problem like this?Does anyone know how to escalate the problem up the chain of command in 2talk? I would really like this sorted and I am going be asking them to credit back all the 0.23c they keep billing me for everytime I send a test message that goes nowhere.I don't want to move or change my number but if they cannot get their AITG and fix this I will have to.getting grumpy now

2Degrees SIP Registration Expiration
After a bit of a kerfuffle getting my 2Degrees Home Phone Plus working with my SPA112 on my UFB connection (read my other posts if you are interested, but I'm not sure it is pertinent to this question..and thus a new post). However, I have noticed some unusual behaviour. It seems that the re-registration windows is only 30 seconds regardless of how I have my SPA112 configured? I have my SPA112 configured with a 3600 second registration interval, but no matter what happens it looks like it expires and registers every 30 seconds. I'm not having any problems staying connected or making/receiving calls.I have another SIP provider for the USA (localphone.com) and if I leave my 2Degrees configuration identical and only change the server name and the userid/password, my SPA112 will connect to localphone and it honors the registration expiration time I have set in the configuration. Is 2Degrees able to enforce a shorter registration windows from the server side and do they have it intentionally set to 30 seconds? If so, that is fine. I just want to make sure my equipment is behaving and not spamming their server and is doing what it is supposed to do.I'm using most of the information/configuration details that @sbiddle has previously provided - they are quite old now, but still seem to be relevant and useful.

Vodafone Ultra Hub modem works with SIP phone to get VOIP phone service
I'm on Vodafone fixed landline & fibre broadband service plan. the modem is vodafone ultra hub. connecting the home phone to one of the voip port in the modem to get the landline phone service through voip. login into the modem web config page, check the phone service configuration, it is sip based voip service.is it ok to connect a sip phone (not home phone) to the modem (e.g. to the LAN port), and configure the sip phone with the information of the modem phone configuration, to get phone service through voip?there is only one landline number under this plan. in order not sharing the same landline number when people living here make outbound calls, can set up a PBX server and/or configure vlan to achieve this purpose. has anyone get this working already or have better approach?thank you very much.

Residential VOIP Providers in NZ
Hi There! Who are offering VOIP Packages in NZ presently? Currently I know about: 2Talk (Cheap and HORRIBLE Customer Service in my opinion, but feature rich and CHEAP) Conversant (Cheap Mobile Calls, no bundled minutes with plans, much better customer service, $50 setup fee!) VFX (Moderately expensive (Mobile calls at least), reportedly better service Kiwilink (Cheaper End of the market, can't speak to service levels as no experience or reports) Any others worth mention?

VOIP setup for multiple businesses
I'm looking for a VOIP solution to manage calls for 4 different businesses. The most important thing I'm after is being able to identify which Organisation a call is for before answering. For example John is the Accounts person for Company A and Company B. I want a setup so that whether he is answering on his mobile or desk phone he can see something like "Call for Company B- Accounts".I'm currently using 2Talk with a simple setup and hoping to configure it in the way I described. I recently had a look at Spoke Phone who have a really nice mobile app and it shows you who the call is for while still showing the actual callers ID.Would 3CX help with this?

Getting ring tone when destination number is disconnect from power (UFB)
Not sure where to put this but I guess it most people here would have known about this but not me.My "Landline" is connected to the UFB (ie not via copper) when with upgraded to Spark UFB.When I rang my landline today not knowing that the phone was not connected, I got a dial tone and it rang for about 20-30 seconds. After doing that a few times and had no-one answer I discovered the landline phone was disconnected (cordless phone, base power off).Thought I'd inform the public as an FYI!
